That’s why our English and Chinese lessons embrace cross-linguistic connections. Let’s take the simplest sentence as an example. When our teacher teaches the students “I eat apples”, they will also connect it to its Chinese version, whose word sequence and grammar are very similar. By recognising this connection, your child will develop greater linguistic awareness and an advanced understanding of their native language.


主題式學習夯實基礎

Thematic learning prepares future leaders


諾德安達富有趣味的主題式學習課堂,將讓孩子們在創(chuàng)新思維、模式識別和問題解決等方面表現(xiàn)更為出色。


在主題式學習課堂中,我們的學生將會就同一主題展開,學習不同學科的知識。例如,我們選取一些超市中的常見食物,與世界地理知識相結(jié)合,由此在數(shù)學課上,學生們將計算它們的食物里程,并且以圖表的形式輸出;在語文課上,他們會把食物聯(lián)系到相應的中國傳統(tǒng)節(jié)日,并撰寫食譜;在英語課上,他們會學習這些詞的英文表達,然后制作英文食譜;而在藝術(shù)課上,他們則會通過靜物繪畫來深入觀察這些食物的形狀、顏色和質(zhì)地結(jié)構(gòu)。


Our students will learn to perform better in tasks that call for creative thinking, pattern recognition and problem solving. In our thematic learning classes, our students study in different subjects using the same topic. For example, for a topic on world-food, in geography, the students might pick some items from the supermarket and calculate food-miles on a world map. Students then create bar charts to represent this data in their maths classes. In the Chinese classes they connect the food to traditional Chinese festivals and create a recipe; they also learn the words in their English classes and then create the recipe in English; while in the art classes they sketch, learning to understand the shape, colour and texture of still-life fruit and vegetables.

Weather and Climate


近期,我校小學五、六年級的IPC(國際小學課程)課堂里,學生正進行“氣候與天氣”的主題探究。


他們將不同科目與單元主題聯(lián)系起來展開學習。學生們以討論如何去幫助南極洲的科學家為主題切入點進行探究,并根據(jù)現(xiàn)實生活中的問題進行思考,提出解決意見。


緊接著在老師的幫助下,學生建立了一個主題知識庫,通過地理、科學、藝術(shù)/設計技術(shù)、數(shù)學和語言等不同學科學習新知識。例如:在美術(shù)課堂上,他們用繪畫的形式,畫出不同的氣候形式。在STEAM的課程上,他們即將進行關于極端天氣的科學實驗,將設計自己的氣象儀器來測量學校的天氣,并使用測量到的信息來制作個人天氣預報等。學生完成這個主題的學習后,將會把他們的學習成果在校園內(nèi)進行展示。

The Upper Primary School students (Grade 5 and 6) are currently exploring their MP 3 Unit, called Weather and Climate. Many subjects are linked with the unit topic, making learning fun and exciting. Students started of with the Entry Point – discussing how they can go to Antarctica and help the scientists over there. They learned about real-life issues and give their opinions on how to solve everyday problems. Students build a knowledge bank of ideas, learn new skills through geography, science, art/design technology, mathematics and languages. For example, they draw different climates in the art class and they conducted science experiments on extreme weather and designing their own weather instruments to measure the weather in the STEAM course. The information is used to make weather forecasts in later class. After students complete their study on this topic, they will present their learning results on campus. Students will show their learning achievement on campus after the study of this unit.
