我們面前的是一批朝氣蓬勃,個性滿滿的學(xué)生。我們中的部分人在MBS建立之初就來到了這里,還有一些是在今年年初加入到了這個大家庭。

Greetings faculty, administration and leadership, parents, and our esteemed Grade 9 graduates:

領(lǐng)導(dǎo)們,老師們,和九年級的畢業(yè)生們,大家好!

I am Ms. Amanda Biever, Grade 9 English teacher and Grade 9 Level Leader. You might remember me as the person constantly telling you to get to class, to close your laptop, or to wear a mask.

我是九年級的英語老師和年級主任Amanda Biever,我在你們的印象中可能是個喜歡反復(fù)叮囑你們的老師——上課啦,關(guān)電腦啦,戴口罩啦。

All the same, it is my great honor to be here today speaking at your graduation ceremony.

能在座各位一樣,今天能參與你們的畢業(yè)典禮是我莫大的榮幸。

We have before us today a very special and extraordinary group of students. Some of us have been here at MBS Since its inception, others have joined us just at the beginning of this year.

我們面前的是一批朝氣蓬勃,個性滿滿的學(xué)生。我們中的部分人在MBS建立之初就來到了這里,還有一些是在今年年初加入到了這個大家庭。

And what a wild a year it was.

過去的這一年我們實在經(jīng)歷了太多。

Still, it seems to me that all of us have been able to find our place here, however brief. 9th grade is a formative and eventful year for a student, and it seems sometimes the demands placed on you to study, to perform, to take exams is enough to drive a person mad into the wilderness.

對我而言,雖然在學(xué)校的時間很多,但我們都找到了自己的位置。九年級對于一個學(xué)生而言,要求嚴,任務(wù)重。有時候?qū)W習(xí)任務(wù)和考試壓力會讓人覺得難以喘息。

But over the course of this year I have seen all of you rise to the many challenging, ever-changing, and strenuous tasks set before you, and each with your own particular flair of personality.

在過去一年的課程里,我看到你們每個人都在逐漸學(xué)會用自己的能力直面挑戰(zhàn),迎接變化,應(yīng)對壓力。

Some of you are “doers”. The ones that can’t wait for the lecture to finish, to get through the book, to pantomime through the practice, so they can get out there and conquer the world. You’re the ones who push yourself and others to go beyond “knowing” and into “being.” The force and the influence of that momentum is really powerful.

你們中有“實干家”,在學(xué)習(xí)新知識的時候迫不及待地想要把書本和課堂所學(xué)直接運用到生活,想要走出課堂,征服世界。你們不滿足事物的表面,“知其然”還要探求“所以然”,這股能量真是太強大了。

Some of you are “thinkers,” or maybe even “dreamers.” You can analyze as well as you can imagine, and nothing gives you greater joy than bringing an exciting and creative idea to life. You’re the ones who fill our worlds with splashes of color, wit, stories, and music.

你們中有“思想家”,甚至“夢想家”。善于思考和分析,有意思的想法和有創(chuàng)意的觀點是你們生活中的最大樂趣,也正是你們這群人,長大以后會讓世界聽到更多故事,擁有更多智慧,變得更加多彩。

Some of you, well, some of you are “the wild cards.” I trust we’ve all played enough Uno by this time to understand the reference. Your excitement, curiosity and vigor in living and (sometimes) learning brings you to places you never dreamed you’d end up in when you first began. You’re the voyagers, the adventurers—maybe your paths aren’t always in a straight line, but the zig-zags and roundabouts tell of their own unique experiences. You are the ones that live for the thrill.

你們之中還有一些就像Uno紙牌中的“萬能卡”,有著自由的靈魂。你們的熱情,好奇和活力會帶你們駛向從未夢想過的遠方。你們是遠行客,探險家,可能前路不總是那么平坦,但曲折的道路會成為你們獨特的經(jīng)歷,你們就是為了探索而生。

Of course I don’t mean to generalize—hardly anyone fits entirely into just one of these categories. There are elements of the doer, the thinker, and the wild card in all of us at some time or another. In the end, all of our pieces come together to build the strong class and cohort dynamic we have all seen in you this year.

當(dāng)然,我并不是想要把你們分成大類,因為沒有哪個人是專屬于某一個類別的。你們身上匯集了各種不同的元素。這些元素相互作用,構(gòu)成了站在我們面前,有活力的你們。

In the course of this past year, I have witnessed so many of you giving your hearts. It’s so much more than showing perfect work or being “the best.”

過去的一年里,我看到你們太多“用心”的瞬間,我認為“用心”要比“完美”或“最好”都更加重要。

It’s in the kindness you show to your peers, the comaraderie you enjoy with each other whether in the classroom, or at leisure. It’s the depth to which you pursue an interest, if only because there’s something about that thing that excites and energizes you. We teachers spend our lives looking for that in students.

你們的用心體現(xiàn)在對伙伴的善意,體現(xiàn)在課上課下的協(xié)作精神,體現(xiàn)在追求愛好時候的專注,讓你們用心的東西不是別的,僅僅是那些讓你們感到激動的事物,這也是我們做老師的,窮盡一生想要發(fā)掘的學(xué)生的品質(zhì)。

We see it in how you have encountered and met challenges, change-ups and difficulties. Unforeseen circumstances. A new schedule, a new thing in this-class and that, a different way of looking, seeing, doing, and being. We see this in how you go about the heavy business of mastering any skill.

我們期待看到你們未來如何面對變化、困難和挑戰(zhàn)。比如未知的環(huán)境,新的課程,新的所見、所聞、所為……我們在過去的一年里已經(jīng)在你們身上看到了這些能讓你們面對未來的品質(zhì)。

帶著梅雙的文化印記走向更遠的未來

Your best bet is always to step forward. In trust, by virtue of taking that chance. The outcome, whether good or bad, can only be measured by choosing how you carry that experience. By choosing how you will move forward from it, where you can go, what you can do, discover, create, and give.

對你們而言,最好的嘗試永遠是大步向前,相信自己,抓住機遇。不管結(jié)果好壞,都取決于你如何對待這段經(jīng)歷,取決于你如何繼續(xù)向前,取決于你能到哪里,能做什么,可以怎樣創(chuàng)造和奉獻。

This last academic year for MBS has been nothing short of an experience—in the sense that every experience is significant enough, and unique enough to stand as a collection of events over a period of time in your life that you will never forget.

在MBS的最后一年對我們而言是一段完整的經(jīng)歷。我們?nèi)松械拿慷谓?jīng)歷都如此獨特、重要,它會成為你集郵冊中的一枚郵票,伴你終生。

I hope you will never forget it.

我希望這段經(jīng)歷是你們終生難忘的。
