即將入讀的大學(xué)

我ED申請了弗吉尼亞大學(xué)，并且幸運(yùn)地早申階段拿到了offer。弗吉尼亞是美國頂尖的公立大學(xué)，綜合排名也在30名以內(nèi)。我選擇這個學(xué)校是因?yàn)樗麄兒軓?qiáng)調(diào)“社區(qū)”/“集體”這個觀念。

I chose University of Virginia as my early decision school, and fortunately, it also chose me in the end. It is one of the top public universities in United States, and is ranked top 30 among all universities. I chose University of Virginia because of its strong sense of “community”, which has been a major criteria when I was doing school research

關(guān)于理想 興趣

我仍在探索未來的發(fā)展方向，但我現(xiàn)在有一個大概的想法。我希望未來能從事咨詢或者和汽車工程有關(guān)的工作。所以或許對我來說，最理想的未來是在麥肯錫的汽車工業(yè)板塊里面工作。

I am still exploring my future possibilities, but I have a vague direction that I wish to find a job in consulting or automobile industry. So, the ideal future for me is probably working for automobile industry branch in McKinsey & Company.

在厚德的成長體驗(yàn)

厚德就像是一張白紙，所有人都可以在上面畫上屬于自己的內(nèi)容。我曾是厚德商社的中心成員之一，而我們也在這張紙上畫上了屬于自己的奮斗故事。

Houde is like a blank sheet of paper, on which everyone has the opportunity to paint something they like. I was one ofthe core members in our Houde business club, and we painted our own story on this paper.

密歇根大學(xué)University of Michigan, Ann Arbor,學(xué)校位于密歇根州的安娜堡市，適合安靜的生活，但有大學(xué)城一樣的氛圍。我個人非常欣賞的一位音樂家是UM校友。

University of Michigan, Ann Arbor is anacademically vibrant community. It’s easy to live a quiet life there. Plus, one of my favorite musicians graduated from there.

關(guān)于理想 興趣

堅(jiān)持自己喜歡的(比如，音樂)，探索體驗(yàn)未知的。

I insist on doing things I love, (for example, classical music). I also love to explore and experience things I do not know yet.

在厚德的成長體驗(yàn)

在厚德的三年間，我迎來的最大的幸運(yùn)是認(rèn)識一些值得尊敬和深深感激的老師，他們同時(shí)是學(xué)術(shù)和人生的引路人。

I was so lucky to be educated and influenced by some teachers over the last three years. They shared not only what they mastered academically but also their philosophies of life!

在高中階段最大的改變

接觸到很多不同的聲音，因而看問題的想法多少有些變化;“變化”雖然是中性詞，它可能給我習(xí)慣的價(jià)值觀帶來某些質(zhì)疑、沖撞，迫使我重新整合信息后再做某個決策。

我曾經(jīng)有認(rèn)真想過這個問題。在人生往后的各個時(shí)期我也許會有不同的想法和向往，一直沒有明確答案。非要說一個，我覺得我會想要成為不會后悔的人。

即將入讀的大學(xué)

我選擇的是悉尼大學(xué)，首先我想學(xué)的是政治學(xué)領(lǐng)域的國際關(guān)系，而悉尼大學(xué)在這方面的世界排名很高。另外悉尼是世界上最適宜居住的十個城市之一。選學(xué)校的時(shí)候不僅要考慮學(xué)校的學(xué)術(shù)成就，還要考慮學(xué)校所在的地方和環(huán)境，比如學(xué)校是否在你所要學(xué)習(xí)的領(lǐng)域有較高的口碑，以及該地區(qū)的氣候和基礎(chǔ)設(shè)施，因?yàn)閷W(xué)習(xí)之余生活的舒適度也很重要。如果一個城市或者學(xué)校讓我感覺了無生趣，我可能會換到另一所更有趣的學(xué)校。

I’m going to the University of Sydney. First of all, I’m going to learn international relations mainly in politics. And Sydney ranks very high in politics education worldwide. And of course, Sydney is one of the top 10 best living cities in the world. Choosing your university, you have to take both the academics of the school and living environment of the place where the school locates into account, whether the school has a good reputation in the area of your study, the weather and infrastructures of the place. Once you have finished your work of the week, therest of it would be basically your life there. If the city and the school boredom to death, then I am afraid I would transfer to another more interesting school.

申請經(jīng)驗(yàn)分享

低估了SAT考試分?jǐn)?shù)的重要性讓我在申請過程中吃了大虧。雖然SAT考試不是全部，但是它的作用是不能忽視的。不管是申請英國、美國或是其他國家的大學(xué)，都一定不要低估這個考試的分?jǐn)?shù)。I have got beaten down in the application process since I underestimate the importance of SAT test. It is not the whole, but it plays a role that you cannot ignore. DON’T underestimate the testing scores, no matter where you go, Britain or U.S.A., or somewhere else.

另外我不建議對Top 10的大學(xué)做ED或者EA, 因?yàn)槟憧赡軙ミx擇其他相似學(xué)校的機(jī)會。理想很豐滿，現(xiàn)實(shí)很骨感。Also, I do not recommend others to give the early decision or early action to Top-10s since you would probably lose the chance to apply to a more likely one in your list. The ideals have been always fancy while the reality would hit you with a brick on the head.

求知若饑，虛心若愚。保持一顆謙卑的心，加油。

波士頓大學(xué)是位于麻省東部的一所綜合性研究大學(xué)，也是全美第三大私立大學(xué)，素有“學(xué)生天堂”之美名。著名校友包括美國人權(quán)活動家馬丁·路德·金以及8位諾貝爾獎得主，23位普利策獎得主和多名古根海姆獎得主。我選擇波士頓大學(xué)是因?yàn)檫@里豐富的校友資源和優(yōu)秀的地理位置。

Boston University is a research university in east Massachusetts, also the third largest private university in America with the reputation as “student paradise”. The famous alumni of BU, including Martin Luther King Jr., 8 Nobel prize winners, 23 Politzer prize winners and several Guggenheim Fellowship winners. I chose BU because of the rich student networking resource it provides and good location.

我的愛好有長跑/讀書/看電影etc. 理想是成為對社會有用的人。

My hobbies include jogging/reading/watching films, etc. I want to be a person of great help to the society in the future.

In Houde, I befriended with a lot of interesting classmates and teachers that enriched my three years in here.

高中三年最大的改變

在高中階段，我覺得自己最大的改變是學(xué)會了順應(yīng)自己的思想。

My biggest change in high school is that I learnt to listen to my heart when making decisions.

即將入讀的大學(xué)

富蘭克林馬歇爾學(xué)院是一個四年制的私立文理學(xué)院，位于賓夕法尼亞州的一個小鎮(zhèn)。F&M只有不到2300個學(xué)生，學(xué)生和教職工的比例是9:1，班級的平均人數(shù)是18個人，這樣的小班教育可以為學(xué)生提供更多和教授溝通的機(jī)會。我最終選擇富蘭克林馬歇爾學(xué)院是因?yàn)榭粗辛宋睦韺W(xué)院的教育體制，因?yàn)槲业目谡Z和寫作一直是我的弱勢，所以我希望可以通過小班教育在這四年里多和教授，同學(xué)討論溝通，提高自己的能力，為以后申請研究生或是工作打好基礎(chǔ)。

Franklin & Marshall College is aprivate four-year liberal arts college located in Pennsylvania. With fewer than 2,300 students, a 9:1 student-faculty ratio and an average class size of 18, Franklin & Marshall College offers students a wide range of academic opportunities to communicate with professors and classmates. I am looking forward to developing a closer network with professors and classmates in thenext four years, which will also boost my skillsets in terms of career prospects or academic capabilities, whether it be jumping out of college forwork or postgraduate studies.

關(guān)于理想 興趣

我覺得人在不同的年齡會對理想有不同的想法。我現(xiàn)在對未來的憧憬只是希望我能夠有一份體面的工作，最后在有一定經(jīng)濟(jì)基礎(chǔ)的支持下找到我在社會的歸屬感。空閑的時(shí)候我會做一些簡單的瑜伽，練瑜伽能讓我舒緩身心平靜心緒，是很好的減壓方法。

I believe our definitions of dreams may vary at different stages. For now, I hope to land a decent job after college, and finally, I can find a sense of belonging in society on my path to financial independence. I do yoga of different styles, such as anti-gravity and Hatha,which helps me decompress and gives me composure in my leisure time.

在厚德的成長體驗(yàn)

厚德的小班走班制是我最喜歡的!除了有必修要求的幾門課，基本上從高二開始我們就可以在課表上自由選擇自己喜歡的課程。在保證按規(guī)定修滿學(xué)分的前提下，我能夠像大學(xué)生一樣自由的安排自己的課程，拓展自己的興趣。并且厚德的選修課人數(shù)都不多，比如說我在高二下學(xué)期選修的Global War in 20th Century就只有三個同學(xué)，這種超小班的授課讓我能百分之百的參與到課堂中，在同樣的學(xué)習(xí)時(shí)間里汲取到更多的知識。

Small class size and college-like class schedules at Houde Academy are my favorites! In addition to some required courses, we are free to choose electives when we move to the second year. Once we fulfill the credits per requirements by the Bureau of Education of Shenzhen, I can choose courses according to my interests like a college student. Moreover, electives only have no more than 15 students, ensuring a higher teacher-student ratio and a closer learning community. For example, there were only three students in the elective "Global War in the 20th Century" in the second semester of my second school year. This kind of small-size class allowed me to immerse myself in class discussions and learn more effectively.

高中三年最大的改變

我覺得我在高中階段最大的改變就是變得更加獨(dú)立了。第一是因?yàn)樽⌒５脑颍覀兌家x開父母的監(jiān)督，學(xué)習(xí)怎么規(guī)劃管理自己的時(shí)間。第二是相對于普高，厚德給了我們比較高的自由度。比如說電腦，手機(jī)的使用，還有前面提到的選課。I think the most impressive change that happened to me at high school is that I became more independent. As studying in a boarding school, I have to leave my parents during weekdays and learn how to manage my time. Compared to other high schools in general, Houde provides us a certain extent of freedom, such as allowing us to use our cell phones and laptops as long as we put them into good use. The choice of electives that reflect our interest is a typical example as well.

申請經(jīng)驗(yàn)分享

因?yàn)橐瑫r(shí)平衡標(biāo)化考試，活動，主文書，各個學(xué)校的附加文書以及學(xué)校課程，我在申請季的那一段時(shí)間可以明顯的感覺到身邊很多同學(xué)包括我自己都非常緊張焦慮。第一，學(xué)弟學(xué)妹們一定要盡早準(zhǔn)備標(biāo)化考試，雖然大學(xué)在錄取時(shí)會考慮很多別的因素，但是標(biāo)化成績就是我們在申請季的一顆定心丸。第二，校內(nèi)外的活動，比賽一定要積極參與，這些不僅能寫在活動列表上，也能為主文書，附加文書提供思路。最后，相信自己，放寬心!

I distinctly felt the tension and anxiety among our cohort during the application season since we had to work on standardized exams, extracurricular activities, personal statement, supplemental essays, and school curriculums at the same time. My suggestion would be junior students prepare standardized exams as early as possible. Even though the universities will consider more than test scores in terms of the applications, it is still a great reassurance for us. Meanwhile, we should actively participate in extracurricular activities, which not only raise our horizons but also boost our competitive edge when applying for universities.The ideas of personal statements and additional essays for college applications mostly come from our extracurricular experience. Finally, believe in yourself and relax!
