Dear Parents,

January 18th is the end of Semester One. Thank you to all of you for another successful semester at SWIS! I would like to highlight some efforts and progress we have made at SWIS this past semester:

Update on university acceptance.

Many of our 32 Seniors have already received early acceptances to world renown universities in the UK (including one acceptance into University of Cambridge), America, Canada, Switzerland, Spain, Hong Kong and Mainland China (Tsinghua University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University). Our Seniors should expect to receive more acceptances as universities release scheduled acceptance letters, and as they still need to prepare for the Mock Exams in February and the DP Official Exams in May, we will publish acceptances after our Seniors make final decisions regarding where they will study next year.

Teacher professional development.

For PYP two leading consultants have visited SWIS to deliver professional development on IB Math and Reader Writer Workshop. For MYP and DP we have run internal professional development workshops that covered a range of topics such as differentiation, MYP unit planning, assessment, English Language learners, Extended Essays, Personal Projects, etc.

Feedback for teaching and learning.

Across the school we are encouraging peer observation of teaching in addition to observation by the Principals and the Coordinators as a useful tool in providing feedback. To this end we are also planning to conduct student surveys of teachers. Today we started the 2nd MAP tests of the year and we are looking to expand MAP tests across the school in future to provide more immediate and actionable feedback for teachers.

Student behavior and advisory program.

In PYP we have seen improved behavior and manners –right from entering school with Good Morning to Please and Thank You in the lunchroom. A student expectations booklet was compiled and will be sent to parents. In MYP and DP a Grade Level Mentor System is implemented. The Grade Mentors have been effective in coordinating and implementing the advisory program for the respective grade level.

STEAM, creativity and arts education.

We have been combining STEAM education with our students' class learning and competitive robotics events. We have several SWIS Robotics teams and a FRC team that are comprised of both our younger and senior students. To enhance the goal of 21st Century education, the SWIS HAN Gallery was open in November and while its inaugural exhibition is still being displayed, we are now planning to hold a Secondary School International Visual Art Exhibition in our Gallery in April.

Parent workshops.

In addition to workshops that help parents understand our curriculum, teaching in subjects and assessments, we have held a number of workshops on behavior, routines and expectations, technology and parenting. These workshops proved to be practical and meaningful in the SWIS context.

Activities and events.

Our Theater, the Library, the Gym, the Pool and the Field were fully booked for events that were warmly supported by our parents. Now a member of ACAMIS, we are exploring more opportunities for our students to compete in sports and academic competitions. I also would like to extend our appreciation to our teachers and coaches who led these activities and to the SWIS PTA for enhancing our school culture and bringing the community together.

A reminder that our Three-Way Conferences are to be held on Monday 28thJanuary and after that we look forward to seeing you at the Chinese New Year Celebration on Wednesday 30th January.

致家長(zhǎng)的一封信

尊敬的各位家長(zhǎng):

大家好!根據(jù)校歷1月18日是學(xué)期最后一天。首先向大家分享12年級(jí)大學(xué)錄取的進(jìn)展,我們首屆畢業(yè)生早申情況總體不錯(cuò),雖然目前還沒(méi)有常春藤名校,但不少孩子都收到兩個(gè)以上的錄取通知,有一個(gè)收到劍橋大學(xué)的錄取通知,美國(guó)、加拿大、英國(guó)、瑞士、西班牙、香港、大陸(清華,上海交大)的學(xué)校都有。澳洲的申請(qǐng)系統(tǒng)還沒(méi)開(kāi)放,很多學(xué)生沒(méi)有選擇早申,為了不打擾沒(méi)有收到通知書(shū)的孩子們,我們選擇所有申請(qǐng)結(jié)束后再統(tǒng)一宣傳。

本學(xué)期我們的教育教學(xué)和校園活動(dòng)重點(diǎn)推進(jìn)了一些工作,取得了良好的成績(jī):

1. 嚴(yán)格教學(xué)質(zhì)量監(jiān)控,加強(qiáng)聽(tīng)課。教學(xué)校長(zhǎng)制定聽(tīng)課計(jì)劃,落實(shí)聽(tīng)課反饋和教學(xué)指導(dǎo),倡導(dǎo)老師相互聽(tīng)課。健全教師評(píng)價(jià)體系,增加了學(xué)生評(píng)價(jià)老師,1月起將在全校開(kāi)展學(xué)生對(duì)各科老師的問(wèn)卷調(diào)查。

2. 有針對(duì)性開(kāi)展教師培訓(xùn)。小學(xué)請(qǐng)來(lái)IB數(shù)學(xué)顧問(wèn)和語(yǔ)言教學(xué)法專(zhuān)家舉辦校內(nèi)大型培訓(xùn),組織近一半班級(jí)老師到香港國(guó)際學(xué)校觀摩教學(xué),在各年級(jí)系統(tǒng)推進(jìn)讀寫(xiě)教學(xué)法。中學(xué)IB培訓(xùn)回歸基礎(chǔ),針對(duì)提高英語(yǔ)、不同程度學(xué)生的因材施教、布置好作業(yè)等,從備課、教學(xué)策略到課堂實(shí)踐作了培訓(xùn)。

3. 繼續(xù)推進(jìn)國(guó)際性評(píng)估MAP測(cè)試,教學(xué)反饋更加及時(shí)。今天起到下周是學(xué)年第二次MAP數(shù)學(xué)考試,六年級(jí)第二年試行MAP數(shù)學(xué)考試,正在研究今后在小學(xué)部和中學(xué)部進(jìn)一步全面推廣。

4. 與STEAM教育接軌,加強(qiáng)美育。利用創(chuàng)客空間和機(jī)器人實(shí)驗(yàn)室,在各年級(jí)課程中融入機(jī)器人設(shè)計(jì)、工程建筑、編程和藝術(shù)裝置等內(nèi)容。我校已有幾支機(jī)器人賽隊(duì),高中組建了FRC賽隊(duì)瞄準(zhǔn)全球頂級(jí)青少年機(jī)器人賽事。深外瀚美術(shù)館開(kāi)放,四月將舉辦國(guó)際學(xué)校藝術(shù)展,SWIS藝術(shù)教育的優(yōu)勢(shì)更加突出。

5. 行為和德育方面,小學(xué)部編寫(xiě)了《小學(xué)生行為規(guī)范手冊(cè)》即將發(fā)給家長(zhǎng),有助于進(jìn)一步形成家校合力。中學(xué)部落實(shí)導(dǎo)師責(zé)任制,任命了年級(jí)導(dǎo)師組長(zhǎng),加強(qiáng)監(jiān)督,及時(shí)發(fā)現(xiàn)問(wèn)題與反饋。

6. 舉辦了多場(chǎng)家長(zhǎng)講座。小學(xué)針對(duì)各年級(jí)特點(diǎn),介紹了數(shù)學(xué)等學(xué)科教學(xué)、行為規(guī)范和家庭教育等專(zhuān)題。中學(xué)除學(xué)科和升學(xué)等常見(jiàn)關(guān)注話題外,開(kāi)設(shè)了多場(chǎng)MYP入門(mén)講座,比往年更加實(shí)用和深入。

7. 活動(dòng)與競(jìng)賽百花齊放。除傳統(tǒng)活動(dòng),舉辦了戲劇、朗誦會(huì)、繪本劇、辯論賽、讀書(shū)會(huì)、校園廣播等等多元化活動(dòng);培養(yǎng)服務(wù)技能和學(xué)生領(lǐng)導(dǎo)力的課后活動(dòng)更加規(guī)范成熟;我們的學(xué)生在吉隆坡數(shù)學(xué)奧賽中再獲佳績(jī),校游泳隊(duì)在深圳聯(lián)賽上繼續(xù)保持一枝獨(dú)秀,學(xué)校加入ACAMIS后,各項(xiàng)賽事機(jī)會(huì)更多。

在取得的成績(jī)基礎(chǔ)上,下一學(xué)期我們將再接再厲,并及時(shí)向家長(zhǎng)分享我們下一步的教育教學(xué)目標(biāo)。最后,感謝SWIS PTA(家委會(huì))本學(xué)期繼續(xù)為SWIS社區(qū)作出巨大貢獻(xiàn),并感謝全體家長(zhǎng)們一直以來(lái)的信任和支持!

放假前一周(1月28日)我們召開(kāi)學(xué)年第二次三方家長(zhǎng)會(huì),緊接著1月30日是中國(guó)年慶典,歡迎家長(zhǎng)朋友們來(lái)SWIS和我們一起共同迎接中國(guó)農(nóng)歷新年!
