We are pleased to report that RDFIS’s Academic Super Summer Camp has started well. A few highlights from the past week of Summer Camp follow:
我們很高興告訴大家,瑞得福國(guó)際學(xué)校超級(jí)學(xué)術(shù)夏令營(yíng)順利開啟。過去一周夏令營(yíng)有以下亮點(diǎn):
The students are studying English writing and speaking, SAT Math, Geography, Leadership, TOEFL, Web Design, Logic and Philosophy, Chinese Literature, Orienteering, and Applied Math Tools.
同學(xué)們正在學(xué)習(xí)英語寫作和口語、SAT數(shù)學(xué)、地理、領(lǐng)導(dǎo)力、托福、網(wǎng)頁設(shè)計(jì)、邏輯和哲學(xué)、中國(guó)文學(xué)、定向越野運(yùn)動(dòng)和應(yīng)用數(shù)學(xué)工具等課程。
In Chinese Geography, students learned about latitude and longitude, continents and oceans in an interesting way, helping the children to understand the world in more detail.
在中國(guó)地理這門課中,學(xué)生們以有趣的方式學(xué)習(xí)經(jīng)掌握緯度、大陸和海洋,這些方式也幫助孩子們更具體地了解世界。
In Exploring Leadership, students defined NGO, NPO, and IGO. After discussing the difference between non-profit and not-for-profit students debated the ethics of receiving pay from NPOs. We studied the unique position of "social organizations" in China, and researched the budget and major contributors for NGOs outside and inside of China.
在領(lǐng)導(dǎo)力探索課程中,同學(xué)們學(xué)會(huì)了定義區(qū)分非政府組織、非營(yíng)利組織和政府間國(guó)際組織。在討論了非營(yíng)利組織和非營(yíng)利組織之間的區(qū)別之后,學(xué)生們就從非營(yíng)利組織獲得報(bào)酬的倫理問題展開了辯論。我們學(xué)習(xí)了解了“社會(huì)組織”在中國(guó)的獨(dú)特地位,研究了國(guó)內(nèi)外非政府組織的預(yù)算和主要捐獻(xiàn)來源。
In English Speaking and Writing, the students began focusing on argumentative and persuasive speaking and writing. This week, students looked at the difference between a topic and an argument (main idea/thesis). Students also read examples of good speeches—specifically Malala Yousafzai's support for universal access to education at her 2013 address to the United Nations, and Red Cloud's plea for understanding after the Wounded Knee Massacre. The students wrote short essays on colonialism, and discussed the possible reasons for the evils perpetrated by colonialism with a focus on Chateaubriand's Mandarin paradox.

In Web Design, the students began to create a web page independently, with text content, paragraphs, and six styles of headings.

In TOEFL, students learned an English song. They also reviewed requirements of university applications and learned six techniques of memorizing and expanding vocabularies. They learned about the general TOEFL reading and speaking standards and some techniques of how to crack certain type of TOEFL questions as well as some TOEFL exercise. G10 students also analyzed attributeds of successful university application essays.

In SAT math, the students preparation took practice math tests and analysed the correct reponses.

During the evening study hour, students enjoyed reading English books of interest to them as part of the “Iditaread” competition, which challenges students to read at least 975 minutes before July 17. Please remind your student to bring a reading book with them to school each week. For students in grades 9 and above, e-books are acceptable.
在晚上的學(xué)習(xí)時(shí)間里,同學(xué)們喜歡閱讀他們感興趣的英語書籍,這是“Iditaread”競(jìng)賽的一部分,這個(gè)競(jìng)賽要求學(xué)生在7月17日前至少975分鐘閱讀。請(qǐng)?zhí)嵝涯愕暮⒆用恐軒б槐鹃喿x書籍到學(xué)校。對(duì)于九年級(jí)及以上的學(xué)生,電子書是可以接受的。
During the morning sports hour, several students attended and joined in the exercise. This class may be joined at any time, and we encourage students to join us.
在早晨的運(yùn)動(dòng)時(shí)段,不少同學(xué)加入了運(yùn)動(dòng)鍛煉。這個(gè)課可以隨時(shí)參加,我們希望同學(xué)們積極參加。
Finally, we remind you that Summer Vacation may be an ideal time to work on service projects together as a family or with friends.
最后,我們提醒大家,暑假可以是一段理想的、可以跟家人朋友一起參加公益服務(wù)項(xiàng)目的時(shí)間。
For example, Lambo Qin Zhenyan (G12 this Autumn) is organizing a meaningful project to beautify our communities.
例如,今年秋季就讀12年級(jí)的Lambo覃正巖同學(xué)正在組織一個(gè)有意義的項(xiàng)目來清潔美化我們的社區(qū)。
For your reference, each RDFIS student is required to provide 20 hours of service each year. Ideas for community service include child and family education, community beautification, humanitarian services (food, shelter, medical services — medication, medical equipment, mobility equipment, eyesight, etc.), community event facilitation, environmental sustainability and recovery services, scientific advancements and other innovations. If you have questions about what qualifies as service, or to report your service hours, please contact homeroom teachers.
