A Holiday Message from the Principal

大家好，在過去的幾個月里，我已為校報、年冊、歡迎學生返校致辭和十一年級畢業(yè)寫了許多話語，此時已無法書寫我對所有人的衷心感謝，感謝大家團結(jié)一致，確保學生本學期最后幾周在學校有如此寶貴的體驗。感謝大家一直以來對城市綠洲學校的支持。

Dear All, I have written a number of words over the last couple of months for the newsletter, year book, welcoming students back to school and the Year 11 final assembly, that I feel that I am running out of lines to express my heartfelt thanks to our whole community for the way you have rallied together to ensure that students were given an opportunity to have a valuable experience at school for the final weeks of the term. Thank you for your continued support of Green Oasis School.

在我的教學生涯中，這一年是前所未有的。誰又曾想，我們會遇到如此與眾不同的結(jié)局!我們的老師做得非常出色，感謝他們的工作。家長與其家庭成員都很了不起，在長時間的隔離中，讓孩子們一直保持興趣和動力。希望深圳不會再次出現(xiàn)疫情。

This year has been like no other in my teaching career. Who would have thought that at the start of the academic year, this is how it would end! Our teachers have done a fantastic job and I would like to thank them for their work. Parents and family members you have been amazing and have done a great job keeping the children interested and motivated through the long hours of isolation. Let us hope we do not see resurgence here in Shenzhen.

上周五是我當老師這么多年以來最特別的日子之一。當學生通過廣播得知他們在校內(nèi)可不戴口罩時，全校上下的歡呼聲震耳欲聾!但最精彩的還是學生們在課間去球場的情形。小學生們也非常興奮，整整二十分鐘都在歡快地奔跑。臉上的笑容、喜悅和自由讓人驚嘆。一個孩子臉上洋溢著笑容躺在球場上，我問她感覺如何，她回答道：“我太高興了”!

Last Friday will live as one of the most special days in all of my years of being a teacher. The message came out that students, if they wished could take their masks off while they were at school. The cheers that went up across the school when the announcement was made over the school loud speakers were deafening! But the best was reserved for the students’ reaction when they went to the field at break time. The primary kiddies were so excited to be able to run without a mask that they spent the entire 20 minutes running for the sake of running. The smiles, the joy and the sense of freedom were amazing to see. I asked one child how they felt when she was lying on the field with a huge smile on her face. “I am so happy” was the reply!

這次的經(jīng)歷讓我重新認識到簡單事物的可貴。有時候，我們都會沉浸在每天復雜的生活細節(jié)和煩惱中，以至于忘記了有時候只需享受奔跑，感受微風拂過發(fā)梢。不應只有孩子們享受這些，而是我們所有人都應如此。

This experience brought back to me the importanceof the simple things in life. At times we all get so embroiled in the complex details and worry of living everyday that we forget that sometimes it is just about running and feeling the wind in our hair. This should not be just for children to enjoy but for us all.

周末，我有幸登上了梅林的山道，迎接我的是最精彩的景色。請讓我與大家分享：

On the weekend, I was fortunate to climb up Meilin Reserve. What greeted me was the most wonderful site. I would like to share it with you:

我想跟大家說清楚，我不是攝影師，但是僅僅站在山頂上，看著山對面的深圳，不得不說，我們都非常幸運，能在這樣一個安全、干凈、環(huán)保的地方。我很感激，也想鼓勵大家花點時間在戶外享受深圳的一切。

I would like to make it very clear to you I am no photographer, however just standing on top of the Mountain and looking across at Shenzhen, I have to say that we are all incredibly lucky to be in such a safe, clean and environmentally aware place. I am very grateful and would like to encourage all of you to spend some time outside just enjoying what Shenzhen has to offer.

這讓我想到了未來不久的假期，雖然本學期的現(xiàn)場教學時間較短，但網(wǎng)絡教學已經(jīng)意味著在社會距離允許的情況下，課程做到了最好的覆蓋!學生和教師也做好了休息的準備。我鼓勵所有的家庭享受大家在一起的時間，并探索我們生活的這座宏偉城市。騎車、徒步旅行、去海邊都是不錯的。

Which brings me to the holidays ahead, although the onsite teaching has been shorter for this term, the online teaching has meant that the curriculum has been covered as best as social distancing would allow! Keeping that in mind children and staff are ready for a break. I would encourage all our families to enjoy their time together and to discover this magnificent city in which we live. Bike rides, hikes, trips to the beach are all here for us to enjoy.

假期里，孩子們另一個美好的消遣是閱讀。我們希望鼓勵所有的學生都能用中文和英文閱讀。有一句很好的諺語：

Another wonderful pastime for the children over the holidays is reading. We would like to encourage all our students to read in both Chinese and English. There is a wonderful Chinese proverb that says:

“書中自有美景萬千”

“A book is like a garden carried in the pocket.”

讀書之際，可體驗冒險，也可暢游遠方。書不僅使我們遠離世俗，也有助于我們學習和成長。我鼓勵大家拿起一本書，無論是舊的心頭好還是新的作者，享受他們所要講述的故事。

There are so many adventures to be had when one reads a book and so many places to go. Not only are books great for us to escape the everyday but also to learn and grow. I would encourage all of us to pick up a book either an old favourite or a new author and enjoy the stories they have to tell.

在此，非常感謝大家過去這一學年的努力和支持。望珍重，注意安全，享受假期。

So, on that note, thank you everyone for the past year, your efforts and support are greatly appreciated. Take care, keep safe and enjoy the holidays.
